Three Sisters
Photography for the staging of Chekhov's play Three Sisters, the final directing exam of Kristina Grubiša, a third-year student at the Department of Theatre and Radio Directing at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb.
This fragmentary reading of Chekhov explores the theme of memory reconstruction and points to its fragility and mutability, with a particular focus on the titular heroines of Chekhov’s play, who are also the only characters in this adaptation. The three sisters exist in a space of memory: memory of the past, future, and present. These fragments, shaped by recurring sound motifs, sketch a collage of their lives. They are not active participants in their own lives, letting life pass them by, even as they yearn for change.
